CD PROJEKT has sold 6 million copies of The Witcher series games. The first game in the series was released almost exactly 6 years ago – on 26 October 2007. Since then games featuring Geralt the Witcher have earned a firm place among global cult classics.
“Good RPGs tend to continue to sell for a long time, which is an enticing property of this genre. Both parts of The Witcher series have received media acclaim and fan raves. Their continuing sales help expand our fan community, which is another reason to be optimistic about future sales of The Witcher 3.” – says Adam Kiciński, President of CD PROJEKT.
The first part of the saga debuted in 2007 for the PC. In 2011 The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings was released for the PC, with an Xbox 360® release following a year later. Both games have received over 200 awards. In February 2013 CD Projekt RED announced the third installment of the series. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has already been showcased at the world’s largest trade fairs, garnering 79 awards and accolades from respected gaming media.
“It’s hard to believe so many years have passed. Creating games is a fascinating profession, a dream come true for many of us. We pour our hearts into our work, hoping that players will draw true enjoyment from our games. We have always believed that engaging the fan community had the potential to shake the corporate foundations of the videogame market. We are firmly against DRM and we do not believe in paid DLC which does not qualitatively improve upon the original game. Together, we’re changing the market. We hope that the coming years will bring many more reasons to celebrate.” – says Adam Badowski, CD Projekt RED Studio head and member of the board of CD PROJEKT.
The Polish studio’s global success has resulted in further expansion of the Witcher universe. In addition to the videogame, 2014 will bring a new comic book series – the fruit of collaboration between CD Projekt RED and Dark Horse Comic, one of the largest American publishers – as well as The Witcher Adventure Game by the globally acclaimed game developer Ignacy Trzewiczek, available as a board game and an iPad application.
