GWENT – an online card game set in the world of Geralt of Rivia – is the newest project by CD PROJEKT announced for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
GWENT is about dynamic, unpredictable clashes of powerful armies known from The Witcher universe. Victory is determined not by sheer luck, but by player skill, intuition, ability to improvise and a strategic approach to deck design.
GWENT was announced on the eve of E3 – the world’s largest video game fair – at the Xbox One conference which presented key upcoming releases for this console. CD PROJEKT will showcase the game throughout the fair, inviting journalists from around the world to try it out.
“Hundreds of e-mails, phone calls, forum posts and over 40 homebrew community releases – there was no avoiding it; this game simply had to come into existence.” – says Marcin Iwiński, co-founder and Vice President of CD PROJEKT.
“We started developing GWENT right after the release of Wild Hunt. Working in secret, we carefully monitored online forums to get a good grip on player expectations. The fruit of our work is the card game which we have just announced.” – remarks Iwiński.
GWENT is a free-to-play game with optional microtransactions. The game will support both online and single-player modes. Based on the version known from The Witcher 3, it will feature an expanded ruleset.
CD PROJEKT intends to release GWENT as a closed beta in 2016, for the PC and Xbox One. An open beta, which will also support PlayStation 4, will be released at a later date.
